Litchdon Patient Supporting Diabetes UK
As you are aware Mark Humfrey who is a patient at Litchdon Medical Centre took part in sponsored swims to raise money for Diabetes UK. His challenge was to swim 22 miles (equivalent to a channel swim) every week over a 12 week period. I am pleased to say that he successfully completed this on 19 May 2019.
He decided to share his story as he is a type II diabetic and wanted to see how his weight, measurements and blood results were affected by doing this intense exercise, whilst sticking to a controlled diet.
His starting weight was 18st 4.8lb and he finally weighted in at 17st 6.3lb. His neck circumference started at 47cm and dropped to 44.1cm. Waist measurement reduced by 13cm from 112cm to 99cm.
His blood level for HbA1c (average blood glucose level) started at 59 and reduced to 47. His cholesterol level also reduced from 3.2mmol/L in February to the lowest reading of 2.7mmol/L which was taken in March.
He wanted to thank anyone who was kind enough to support him during the past few months and he has presently raised half of his fundraising target.
